Italy, a country of gastronomy, is facing a Christmas with closed restaurants and bars. The curfew of 22.00 to 6.00 o’clock, which came into effect at the beginning of November, is to be extended until the end of the celebrations, according to government sources. The government wants to pass a regulation with the anti-CoV requirements for the Christmas season next week.
Anyone travelling abroad must undergo a quarantine after returning home. The government thus wants to prevent tourists from spending a skiing vacation in neighboring countries, including Austria. The government wants to keep the ski slopes closed over the Christmas period.
Now that the measures in Italy seem to be taking effect, Rome is relaxing the requirements in some regions: Yesterday it decided that Lombardy, Piedmont and Calabria, which were declared a red zone at the beginning of November, may relax their restrictions as of tomorrow. This would allow regions downgraded to orange zones to reopen stores and restaurants in the run-up to Christmas to boost consumption.
The previously orange regions of Liguria and Sicily will be yellow again from tomorrow. Restaurants and pubs can then remain open until 18.00 hours. The President of Veneto, Luca Zaia, will reopen the shopping centers in his region starting today. South Tyrol, Valle d’Aosta, Tuscany, Abruzzo and Campania will remain red regions for the time being with partial lockdown and closed pubs and stores with the exception of supermarkets and pharmacies.
